Gilles Aubry: Salam Godzilla

Video, 2019 (40’35")

Salam Godzilla is an experimental video essay on the earthquake that destroyed the city of Agadir in 1960. Shot in collaboration with the singer Ali Faiq, the film engages with past and present echoes of the disaster and its aftermath, drawing on archive material and performative interventions. The work connects to Gilles Aubry's critical re-examination of the unsound in his contribution to the Sound Studies and Sonic Art reader.

Daisuke Ishida: A Wave, The SINE WAVE ORCHESTRA

Artist talk

An Installation premiered in 2017, altered versions exhibited at Pochen Biennale, Chemnitz, Germany in 2022 and WRO Biennale, Wrocław, Poland in 2023. Indistinct images are projected onto a screen, accompanied by inarticulate sounds reverberating across the entire exhibition space. All of these images and sounds are created by disassembling and recomposing algorithmically in real- time from vast amount of video materials that are picked up from the internet continuously over the period of the exhibition. The fragmented videos that provide the visual and acoustic source material are recomposed/reordered based on their respective data of luminance and sound (magnitude/level) to create a sine wave, which means that the original videos are deprived of their meaning, and reduced to abstract elements of light and sound for the construction of a sine wave.
